THERE was a change in the timetable of Lamerton Primary School on Monday morning when four children were christened in front of their fellow pupils.
The White children have a mind of their own — when it came to their christening they decided to choose their school as the venue for the very special event.
Darren, John, Kelly and Timothy, aged between 11 and eight-year-olds, sing in the choir at Lamerton Church. They hatched up the unique idea with the vicar, the Rev Greg Stanton, and were thrilled when their parents, Jane and Leslie, agreed.
Mid-morning in the school's new library, Mr Stanton baptised the three boys and their sister — dressed in school uniform — in front of more than 30 pupils and staff.
'I thought it was a really smashing idea,' said Leslie White. 'It was very novel and something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
'It is all about bringing religion into the school.'
The children's three sponsors, Leon and Sue Kennedy and David Breadmore, also attended the christening.
Afterwards there was a buffet lunch at the White's home and a piece of christening cake for everyone. Then it was back to lessons as usual.
Headteacher Jennifer Thomas said: 'It hasn't been done here before as far as I know. We thought it was a lovely idea to bring together the church, the school and the community.'
