CHILDREN from St Rumon's Infant School and St Peter's Junior School in Tavistock had a surprise visitor at their assembly on May 20.
Masterchef Peter Gorton from the Horn of Plenty in Gulworthy paid them a visit after being asked to judge an artwork competition to find a front cover for the school's recipe book that the children have been working on.
Peter chose five runners up: Isobel Seal, Bradley Bowyer, Isobel Hillier, Kaitlyn Lees and Phoebe Woodhouse, and Bronte Woodhouse as the lucky winner.
The book is called 'Our Favourite Family Recipes' and has more than 150 recipes, from grandad's beef stew to Mars Bar crispy cakes all of which were submitted by the children along with accompanying drawings of their dishes.
There is also a section containing the children's favourite school dinners.
The professionally printed books are on sale at St Rumon's and St Peter's as well as Book Stop in Tavistock for £6.50 each — all proceeds raised will go towards purchasing new equipment for the two schools.
