Under 11 Ajax League
Tavistock Town FC . . . . . . . . . . . 3
Callington Colts . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4
TAVISTOCK went into this game having been unbeaten since the second game of the season. Having beaten Callington earlier in the season players were full of confidence at the start of this game.
Callington started the stronger but following the home team's first attack Phillip Wearing lashed the ball into the net to give Tavistock the lead.
Tavistock continued to pressurise the Callington defence but only stout defending kept them out.
After 13 minutes a long clearance from Callington's defence resulted in them getting the equaliser which at that time was a fair result. However, Tavistock began to play the football they are capable of and soon had control of the game.
Following a further attack Josh Robins scored to give Tavistock the lead and scored second after 24 min from a throw in when he beat several defenders to lash the ball into the net for Tavistock's third.
Tavistock continued to attack and were unlucky not to go further ahead when a shot was cleared off the line and so the score remained till half time.
It is all too often said that this is a game of two halves and so this game turned out to be. Soon after the start of the second half Callington were awarded a free kick just inside Tavistock's half and it was felt not to be too dangerous.
But their Man of the Match struck a thunderous free kick that absolutely flew into the top corner of the net giving the Tavistock goalie no chance.
The effect of this was quite staggering with Tavistock completely losing their shape and drive and Callington getting stronger the longer the game went on.
So it was only a matter of time before Callington scored the equaliser when a melee in the Tavistock goal was put away by Callington. Tavistock found this new drive of Callington's difficult to cope with and another free kick saw them take the lead .
Tavistock seemed to lose heart and several heads went down at this point but before the end of the game they rallied and put together some good attacks and were attacking at the final whistle when it was far too late.
Both the Man of the Match chosen by the opposition and the Manager's Man of the Match went to Jamie Montgomery, the Tavistock goalie.
