RENOWNED comedian, writer and Radio 4 personality, Tony Hawks, will head to Dartmoor in September to open the third Chagford Film Festival.
Tony Hawks will officially declare the festival open on September 23 when he introduces his new film, Playing the Moldovans at Tennis.
This feel-good film, which tracks Tony's quest to beat the Moldovan football team at tennis, is described as simultaneously insane, moving and hilarious. It is just one of an eclectic mix of films, events and workshops, presented by top industry professionals taking place over the six-day festival.
Oscar winner Gareth Unwin, producer of The King's Speech returns to the festival with his new film Zaytoun. Set in Beirut in 1982, a young Palestinian refugee and an Israeli fighter pilot form a tentative bond in their attempt to make their way across war-torn Lebanon back to their home.
Other confirmed features include Oliver Nakache and Eric Toledano's Untouchable, which tells the story of the friendship between affluent paraplegic Philippe (François Cluzet) and his carer from the suburbs, Driss (Omar Sy).
An exclusive screening of the silent horror classic Nosferatu will be accompanied by acclaimed harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry.
International festival favourite Moo Man will take to the big screen with director Andy Heathcote and producer Heike Bachelier in attendance.
A screening of The Blues Brothers will provide no end of entertainment at this year's sing-a-long spectacle, complete with a Blues Brothers tribute band.
Horror film aficionados can enjoy a horror-themed night, and a chocolate day is planned. Screenings will be complemented by an array of workshops and talks taking place in several venues in town.
The festival wraps up in spectacular style with a star-studded red carpet grand finale evening on Saturday, September 28.
2012 blockbuster The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, has been announced as the closing film for the Chagford Film Festival.
