PUPILS at Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School had an astronomical day recently learning all about space with a visit from an astronomer.

Resident astronomer at Callington Space Centre Clive Purchase spent the morning with pupils from class three, talking to them about space travel and ending the session making and launching their own rockets.

He spent the afternoon with the younger children at the school telling them about robots in space and making 'pop rockets' with them.

Headteacher Nicky Pratten said: 'Clive came back in the evening to do an astronomy evening for the parents, children and staff but unfortunately it was cloudy and we couldn't see a lot. The rockets were very high and fast. It was very enjoyable and a very successful day and evening.'
