Shoppers and visitors may have been amused by the display of colourful and amusing headgear in Tavistock on Saturday week.

The ever strengthening Tidy Tavy team took to the streets again, armed with all the usual accoutrements, but augmented on this occasion by a wonderful selection of Easter bonnets.

Twenty-three volunteers gave up two hours of their weekend to help rid the streets of litter.

The usual areas around the centre of town and further afield were visited and 27 bags of rubbish collected.

Unusual items dumped in hedges and shrubberies never cease to amaze the litter pickers. The latest pick included a complete child's car seat, a food recycling bin and a traffic cone chopped into bits!

But with some notable exceptions, quantities of rubbish in much of the town appear to have declined since last month's Tidy Tavy days.

Many bystanders expressed approval and encouragement, including several who were visiting from overseas.

Tidy Tavy organisers urge anyone who has thought about helping but 'never got around to it' to take the leap and join the team at 10am at the Wharf May 5.
