COUNTLESS missed opportunities seemed to be the order of the day again for Tavistock men's hockey team last Saturday.

Tavistock weathered some early pressure then settled into their own pattern of play and began creating good chances.

With the students keeping up the momentum, the additional substitutes on the Tavistock bench should have proved a useful asset. But where Tavistock benefited in numbers, they lost out in overall control.

Tavistock persisted in giving the ball away and continued to mount pressure on themselves by losing shape and playing a central game.

With the game flowing from end to end but nothing between the teams a draw looked obvious, but a late goal decided the fixture.

Tavistock gave the ball away in midfield and with tiredness showing could not cover back in time to stop the winning goal being slotted away by the overjoyed students.

The home side had the ball in the net from a short corner within the dying minutes but the goal was disallowed due to an infringement.

A disappointing result where points are important but Tavistock aim to correct the situation this Saturday away to USHC.

OPMS 4

AS individuals, Tavistock Hockey Seconds played well, but there was little cohesion within the side, particularly during the first half.

Players regularly passed the ball to the opposition and at free hits the story was similar. Wills had a good game at full back and Kirby had a good first half in midfield but faded somewhat in the second.

On the plus side the defence continue to defend well at short corners with Knox often arriving at the striker before he could shoot. The defence cleared the ball but there was no respite as OPMs regularly took possession in Tavistock's half and attacked again. At half time Tavistock were three goals down which included an assist from Thornton.

During the second half most of the faults were rectified, and yet there were no real goalscoring chances created although plenty of pressure was brought to bare on the OPM defence.

The last goal came from yet another Thornton assist.
