DARTMOOR is fortunate to have such a fine professional chamber ensemble as the Ten Tors Concert Orchestra under the very able baton of Simon Ible, its founder.
Their all-Baroque concert last Saturday at Fairplace Chuch, Okehampton featuring the string section, confirmed for a large audience what a first-class, sensitively musical group they are.
Nicki Kennedy, soprano, sang with drama and great beauty of tone Vivaldi's popular motet 'Nulla in Mundo' and Bach's Cantata Number 51.
The orchestra's own excellent trumpeter, David Shead, gave a faultless and fluent performance in this and in Handel's Trumpet Suite in D and, with Nicki again in the well-deserved encore, Handel's Let the Bright Seraphim.
Okehampton's own distinguished organist, John Holland, accompanied throughout the programme and played his own spirited solo in Stanley's D major Organ Concerto. In all, a night of musical excellence.
The Ten Tors Orchestra can be heard at North Tawton on November 25 and in Tavistock Parish Church on December 23 in a Christmas Gala Concert.
