PLANS to build time share units at Roadford Reservoir are to be discussed by a special meeting today (Thursday). Peninsula Properties Ltd of Exeter is seeking planning permission for a proposed development of a shared-ownership holiday village. The proposed holiday village will consist of 67 units, not exceeding 100 bed spaces. Leisure facilities could include an indoor swimming pool, games room, sports courts, bar and restaurant. The proposed site for development is at Higher Grinnacombe Farm, adjacent to the dam at Roadford Reservoir. However, concerns about the proposal have been voiced by both Broadwoodwidger and Germansweek parish councils. The Roadford Consultation Group claims local communities fear the tranquil spot will be vastly affected by increased noise and light pollution as well as an increase in traffic on narrow lanes. The Group has organised a petition signed by 122 people that object to the development. As a result of these concerns, Torridge District Council has arranged a site visit by members of its planning committee, followed by a special meeting to discuss the plans. The meeting will take place in the Burrator Room of the Lakeside Centre at Roadford Lake. From this room the proposed site of development is clearly visible. The chairman of Broadwoodwidger Parish Council planning committee, Yvonne Prout, and the chairman of the Roadford Consultation Group, Leith Whittington, have been invited to explain their concerns to the committee. Roadford Lake is principally a water supply impoundment reservoir created by damming and consequent flooding of the River Wolf Valley and small tributary streams. The primary public facilities at the lake are a car park with viewing telescopes, toilets, walk and cycle ways, visitor centre with a shop and tea room and an adventure playground.
