ANOTHER year goes by and I am again writing a thank you letter to all those kind people who have given money for the Margaret Green Animal Rescue Centre at Brentor.

Whether it was donations into the charity box, buying cards (birthday or Christmas), or even buying books, all the money donated is gratefully received.

I know times are hard for many of us at the moment, especially when so many charities are asking for donations, but the kind people of Tavistock and surrounding area, even visitors to Tavistock, have been really generous with their money.

We do seem to have a lot of animal lovers around and television shows like Paul O'Grady's time at Battersea has helped to bring the plight of rescue dogs and cats in rescue centres to the fore. It's often through no fault of their own, the reasons why they end up in rescue centres.

During this past year I have spoken to many more people who have taken in a rescued dog or cat from many rescue centres around the country and listened to stories of how well they have settled in their new homes. Often I am told that when they are thinking of getting a new pet their first port of call is a rescue centre and nearly always come away with a new addition to the family. There are many dogs and cats in rescue centres waiting for their new forever home.

Now to the donations received for 2012: Collection box total, £161.47; card sales total £115.55; book sale total, £156. Grand total £433.02. Many thanks again to everyone.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to donate a Christmas box for the animals at the Margaret Green Animal Centre at Brentor. All the animals had a lovely time with all the gifts of toys and treats.

I am once again having my usual book sale during the winter months to raise more funds for our rescue centre. I shall be in Tavistock Pannier Market every Friday, so please come along and buy some books. Let's hope 2013 will be another good year for raising much needed funds. Thank you all once again for your support.

ON behalf of the Lamerton Handbell Ringers we would like to express our very grateful thanks to all those organisations and individuals for the kind hospitality and donations we received at our annual handbell festival and functions we performed at leading up to Christmas.

Each year money that is collected is donated to a chosen charity and this year £260 has been sent to 'The Chestnut Appeal' at Derriford Hospital. Sincere thanks to everyone.
