HATHERLEIGH Carnival Committee has stepped up its fundraising activities this year in case it is faced with paying a bill of more than £1,000 for the policing of the event. This Saturday (August 13), the committee will be holding a brand new fundraising event ? The Island Park Party. This open air event is to be held on the Island Park ? the area by the bridge as you enter Hatherleigh ? from 6pm onwards. Along with live music from local band Riffreign, there will be a ram roast, barbecue and beer tent. At 6.30pm, the first of two duck races will be held. Other amusements on offer will include skittles, ?horse racing?, play your cards right and a human fruit machine. This year?s president is staunch carnival supporter Mrs Fay Kingsford. And the new prospective carnival queen, Jessica Squire, and her ?selling team? are busy shifting carnival queen tickets.
