IT is time the sea came back to Tavistock. I think this would probably happen if Lopwell Dam could be removed.

Once the River Tavy was open to the tides one could visualise all kinds of exciting prospects.

A yachting marina could be established somewhere in the Crowndale area. Excursions could be arranged from the port of Tavistock to the Tamar estuary and the open sea beyond.

Seawater flowing up and down the Tavy estuary would make our mini-climate even milder than it is at present. Anglers would welcome the increased variety of fish which would swim in from the sea.

The age-old question of expense would raise its ugly head. Our Victorian forefathers indulged in some very grandiose schemes, such as the railways, the Tamar Bridge, the Severn Tunnel. They raised the money somehow.

This plan of mine would make Tavistock a still more famous tourist attraction than it is today.
