NOW that the fun of Tavistock Carnival and the visit of the amazing Man Engine are over, it’s time to help clear up some of the mess left behind by the crowds of spectators.

Tavistock has certainly been abuzz with activity and thronged with visitors bringing welcome trade to local businesses. Sadly, however, there is a downside!

A Tidy Tavi spokesperson said council operatives have done a magnificent job in removing the bulk of the litter from the central part of town, but pockets of rubbish still remain in other less frequently visited areas.

Theyb said: ‘If you are proud of where you live and really want to maintain Tavistock’s well-deserved status as the jewel of West Devon, why not come along and help on Saturday 6?

‘Litter-picking isn’t difficult and a couple of hours out and about in the fresh air provides good exercise. Volunteers will be meeting up outside the Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10am. Regulars and newcomers are extremely welcome to come and join in.’
