PLANNERS in West Devon have approved a scheme for 14 affordable homes at Monksmead in Tavistock.

West Devon Homes wants to develop 0.6 hectares of land to include the provision of public open space, a play area and parking.

Four letters of objection were received from local residents concerned over the effect on wildlife, increased traffic, loss of a green area and concern over the use of the play and car parking areas.

Access to the site, which members of the planning committee were told was currently overgrown with various informal pedestrian pathways through it, would be through the Monksmead estate.

Planning officers were delegated to grant permission subject to a satisfactory conclusion of drainage problems and talks with English Nature over wildlife on the site.
