YOUNGSTERS and parents at Okehampton Children's Centre have been celebrating after they completed their Bookstart course.

The Bookstart scheme offers free books to all children at two key ages before they start school, to inspire a love of reading. At Okehampton Children's Centre, parents and carers have been working with children to work on their reading.

The course was run by Jean Daniel. She said: 'We have all learnt a lot along the way, and changed the course as we have gone to fit with the needs of everyone. This group have been our guinea pigs really, and we hope to bring it to more mums and parents.'

The centre will run a Bookstart course in Chagford in October and another course in Okehampton in the new year.
