THE recently published article on The Wharf,
Tavistock's local arts and entertainments centre, gave
a balanced view of the current problems faced by the
Wharf and West Devon Borough Council.
However, the fact that we have a thriving and
'bursting at the seams' arts and entertainment centre
in Tavistock, which is unable to expand its diverse
range of community and arts projects due to shortage
of space, is something we should celebrate.
Many market towns would envy our 'problems'.
West Devon Borough Council should at least give the
Wharf management the opportunity to present their
business plan to cover the costs of the rental of the
desperately needed space at 15 Canal Road.
The expansion of the community, arts and training
programmes at the Wharf would generate the rental
for 15 Canal Road and many new jobs, tourism and
business for Tavistock.
This should be given much more serious
consideration for the future prosperity of our unique
town.
