TAVISTOCK Tennis Club held its annual dinner at the town's Golf Club earlier this month and which was attended by 33 people.

Guests included the deputy mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Philip Sanders, deputy mayoress, Dr Hilary Sanders, club president Norma Woodcock with husband Gerry, and club vice-president, Ray Lewis and his wife Rita.

New club chairman Gareth George, said  that it had been a very pleasant annual dinner and this was a thriving club. Many of the club's talented youth had moved on to higher education.  He added the club had six men's and two ladies' teams in the Plymouth and district league competitions, which is amazing for a club the size of Tavistock.

Former chairman, Mike Prout, said a few words about the Children's Hospice South West to which the club makes a donation each year in memory of the wife of one of its past members. The winners of the Hospice Cup were Sue Parsons and Ron Skinner and £255 was raised for the Hospice. Member of the Year Cup was presented to David Isaac for his dedicated work with the club over many years.
