THE first trophy event at Okehampton Golf Club was the Wilson Shield — a three-man team stableford with the best two on each hole counting.

The winners with a score of 85 points were Matt Soby, Lee Carey and Derek Owen.

Saturday was the date for the delayed 2001 fixture of the Macleod Cup and Bird Medal.

The Macleod cup, which is given to the best scratch score of the day, was won by Adam Cook with a fine round of 69 (1 over par).

The Bird Medal, given for the best nett score for the day, was won by Alan Mann with an incredible 59, only just pipping John Tolley who also had a 59, but who lost out on the back nine holes.
