THREE very special events were held at St Peter's Church, Lamerton, during the weekend of Remembrance Day.

The Callington Singers came to the church and performed a poignant concert which included several readings. Members of the Lamerton and Tavistock branches of the Royal British Legion brought their standards which lay on the altar during the performance.

A delicious spread was provided after the concert, which raised funds for the Devon branch of the forces charity SAFFA, who put up a display of their work with forces personnel who need help. The 95 members of the audience donated an amazing total of £552.19 through a retiring collection — thanks are extended to all who contributed.

On Sunday Lamerton Royal British Legion led a congregation of nearly 50 to the memorial in the cemetery and then on to church. The Rev Andy Barton led the service — Peter Hurdwell played the last post. Again the Lamerton generosity saw £378 collected for the RBL.

The church's third event again saw Lamerton RBL present, leading a procession of all the children from Lamerton Primary School to the memorial for a short service led by Annie Jefferies. The children laid a wreath and crosses in memory of all the soldiers from Lamerton who died in both world wars.
