THE oldest speaker in the history of women's group Taste and See entertained members at an excellent evening in the Terrace Restaurant in Tavistock recently.

Marianne Grinter, 87, gave a thought provoking account of her long and fulfilled life. She has been a professional actress, an accountant, a lay reader in the Church of England, a leader of Christian retreats, both both home and abroad, as well as a wife, mother and grandmother.

Her faith took on a new dimension following the sudden death of her husband when she was 49.  In her early 70s she devopled a neurological problem, spent a year in a wheelchair and was told she would not walk again. Following a dramatic healing she has since spent much time praying for many people, including for the street pastors in Plymouth.

Ruth Newman thanked Marianne for an excellent talk.

The next Taste and See is on Wednesday December 14 at the Bedford Hotel and will take the form of a Christmas cabaret led by Tracy Harding and friends who will be singing festive songs. Early booking is recommended. Tickets are £10 for two courses and can be purchased from Georgina's pet shop in West Street — telephone 01822 617 277.

Taste and See is open to all women of any age and newcomers are always welcome. For further information contact Ruth Newman 01822 616859.
