Plymouth and District hockey league Okehampton Ladies Seconds 1 Plym Valley Thirds 1 ON yet another wet and windy Sunday afternoon Plym fielded a much more mature and experienced team than the Oke girls but this brought out the fighting spirit in the home team. Sarah Toms and Abi Colton worked tirelessly in midfield soaking up continued pressure from the Plym attack. Youngster Brieze Read battled hard at right half and fed right wing Hannah Whitely with some quality ball. Whitely combined well with Grace Thorp to create some scoring chances for Oke.  The team's determination was rewarded when Thorp converted a penalty corner, hammering the ball into the net from a narrow angle. Plym Valley came out fighting in the second half forcing Oke defenders Sophie Whitely, Jo Drake and Amanda Sim to tackle strongly.  Unfortunately a goalmouth scuffle resulted in Plym slotting the ball past the brave Oke keeper Jennie Humphry. Oke responded to the Plym goal with some sharp passing moves by Sarah Jones and Sophie Whitely down the left side of the field.  This enabled left wing Lottie Trerise to penetrate the Plym defence with some scintillating runs which dominated the left attack.  Trerise skilfully outwitted the Plym defence to provide Thorp with a lovely ball in front of the Plym goal which she slotted home.  Unfortunately the goal was disallowed due to a previous infringement. The Oke youngsters held Plym Valley at bay with strong defending from Nat Dennis and especially Amanda Sim. Man of the match went jointly to Lottie Trerise and Abi Colton. l Next Sunday Okehampton Ladies Seconds play host to Exeter University sixth team at home at 2.30pm.
