Devon seconds A division

Tavistock seconds

v Abbotskerswell seconds

THE Tavistock skipper won the toss and put Abbotskerswell into bat on a soft wicket.

John Smith making his debut for the seconds bowled a good first spell being unlucky not to take a wicket; Downham also bowled a tidy spell, but the Abbots openers were setting a firm base to the innings at 47, Thomas was the brought into the attack, his spell of 4-40 changed the innings around, despite a 54 for Crocker and a hard hitting 61 for Green the Abbots total of 188 seemed within reach.

The Tavistock reply started badly skipper McGahey caught at first slip and Newton bowled with only four on the board. Phil Stephens and Freddy Jayaraja set about repairing the damage, both batted superbly putting on 179 for the next wicket, Jayaraja batted with a maturity not always seen in a player of his young age, which was a delight to watch.

Phil Stephens continued to score runs as he has done all season. When Freddy was eventually caught Tavistock only needed six to win.

This was when Tavistock had a bit of a wobble Stephens followed two runs latter, then his son Jamie and Jeffery, but with the lower order scrambling for their pads debutant Johnny Smith calmly directed the ball through gully for an excellent win.

Tavistock 18 points Abbotskerswell 7pts.
