Tavistock Thistles U18s 6

Looe U18s 0

WITHIN the first five minutes it became obvious Tavistock were going to control play due to the skills of their forward thinking and passing of the ball.

Their efforts were rewarded with the first two goals coming from Lee Wickett, supported up front by Ben Stephens.

Tavistock's mid-fielders Dale Mullen, Julian Bracey-Davis, Wayne Downham and Seth Krotke continued to make life difficult for the opposition with fantastic passing.

Four further goals were created within the first half, courtesy of Krotke, Mullen and Wickett (2).

With a six goal deficit Looe were determined to claw their way back, but the defence of Ali Jowett, Jason Webber, Dan Credicott and Craig Groombridge took the majority of pressure in the second half.

Substitutions were made with Luke Huxham and Darren Sambells contributing with some great runs.

The away side gained some chances but never converted due to some great saves from Shaun Maloney.

Man of the match: Dale Mullen.

Tavistock Thistles 3

THISTLES started brightly and soon got the upper hand, pegging back the team currently holding third place in the league.

Matthew Stephens was prominent for Thistles in the early stages, causing problems for the home team with his pace down the right flank. He supplied a superb cross for Darren Phillips to again demonstrate his predatory skills to put Thistles one up in the second minute.

Thistles' midfield, led by Paul Gibbings, denied the opposition time and space. There was solid defending from Lewis Marks, Jon Walker, Nick Lovering and Joseph Busuttil.

Thistles continued to press with the front two of Darren Phillips and stand-in striker Jack Yeo putting the home defence under pressure. This led to goal number two when Darren Phillips outpaced his marker and lobbed the keeper.

With the interval looming Plympton reduced the deficit. Straight from the restart Plympton regained possession and scored their second.

The second half started with Plympton taking the lead with an early goal.

Thistles were under the cosh and it was no surprise that goals were being scored at regular intervals. But Thistles did not give up and Phillips again outstripped the home defence to complete another hat-trick.

Man of the match: Joseph Busuttil.

Horrabridge 3

THIS local derby played in early spring sunshine saw Thistles mark their first match at their new Whitchurch Down pitch with a narrow victory.

Taylor McCormack opened the scoring early on with a convincing goal from the area.

The defence of Ian Harvey, Jack Quinn, Cadan Lowther and Niall Murphy ensured Horrabridge were kept from scoring throughout the first half.

Joshua Leeson, in midfield, scored his second goal of the season with a well placed chip from the edge of the box.

Matt Jefferies and Rhys Dunford played excellently from the wings with Dunford supplying an excellent cross that enabled Ben Langton to score the third goal.

Keeper Phillip Snell had little to do in the first half, which contrasted greatly with the second, where supporters saw a further Thistles goal from McCormack.

Substitutions were made with Ben White, James Northey and Chris Hull coming on during the second half.

A rejuvenated Horrabridge opened their scoring with a superbly taken free kick from the edge of the box. This spurred them on and they rapidly scored twice more leaving Thistles dazed, but just able to hang on to the advantage.

Man of the match: Ben Langton.
