Tavistock Thistles 4

Goosewell Rangers 3

DESPITE a long Christmas break Thistles picked up where they left off to record another good victory and start the New Year undefeated in four games.

They started well and created two good chances before Darren Phillips opened the scoring following a good pass from Adam Stephens. Darren Phillips applied the finishing touch to a superb run and cross from Steven Lake on the right wing.

James Meckiff, Steven Lake, Paul Gibbings and Andrew Wallace in the Thistles midfield were working exceptionally hard, denying Goosewell time and space.

An excellent cross from the impressive Stevens saw Phillips complete a first half hat-trick ? his third of the season ? to put Thistles 3-0 up at the break.

Goosewell started the second half in determined fashion, scoring an equaliser.

Thistles were sticking to their task with Jon Walker and Joseph Busuttil defending solidly at the heart of the defence. They extended their lead when Phillips was fouled in the box, giving Wallace the opportunity to smash home the spot kick to make it 4-1.

Goosewell scored two late goals but Thistles were not to be denied and held on to secure the points.

This was another fine team effort but there were impressive displays from the excellent Steven Lake, James Meckiff, Adam Stevens and the hat-trick hero, Darren Phillips.
