Okehampton Argyle 3rds 3 Crediton 2nds 2 THE third?s team had to make do with the lack of superstar Pip Yelland on this day, yet despite this disappointing setback they were able to get the win they expected. Within nine minutes, Okehampton won a corner. Monnox swung the ball into the box, where stand-in centre back Aaron Ditchburn was able to use his height and strength to head the ball over the Crediton goalkeeper into the back of the net. However, celebrations were short lived. With his back to goal, Crediton?s number two was able to control a bouncing ball in the Okehampton area and then strike it over the leaping cat-like figure of Ben Woodhouse into the Okehampton net. Despite the odd over the top balls and shots, it was actually Crediton who seemed to have the majority of the possession in the first half. Just before half time Okehampton dealt the crucial blow, a goal before the whistle. A Stewart Entwistle free-kick was nodded onto the back post, where the lurking Aaron Ditchburn was waiting to hammer the ball into the back of the net. At halftime Okehampton brought off Billy Spence for Sean Hitchcock, who was making his comeback from injury. Within five minutes of the restart the Crediton keeper was called into action diverting a shot from Entwistle past the post after latching onto a pass from Okehampton captain Scott Hooper. Throughout the whole of the second half, the front three linked well causing mayhem for the Crediton defence. The change of formation got its reward, a corner from Monnox finding the lurking Hitchcock at the back post, drilling the ball low into the bottom corner. Then Okehampton suffered a blow. Aaron Ditchburn, who had been a major force in the Okehampton defence, was unable to carry on due to sustaining an injury. Having used all three of their substitutes, Okehampton now had to play with just ten men for the remaining 15 minutes. Crediton took advantage of this setback and mounted up the pressure, forcing a tap in from a low cross five minutes later, making it 3-2 and setting up a tense finale. Crediton kept up the pressure, and on 87 minutes looked certain to get the inevitable. With a low, well struck volley on target, it looked certain to be the desired equaliser, but in came Woodhouse standing his ground and making an outstanding save, insuring that Okehampton went through into the next round. Man of the match: Aaron Ditchburn.
