ANNIVERSARIES can be tricky dates to remember — though it shouldn’t be a problem for one local family, with three generations married on the same day.
Gemma Timms and Aron Ditchburn, who wed on Saturday, September 3 have become the third generation of their family to get married in the same church on the same day.
Gemma and Aron got married at Inwardleigh church on the September date just as Gemma’s parents did in 1983 and grandparents did back in 1955.
Carol and Clive Timms celebrated their 33 year anniversary by watching their daughter get married.
Carol said that the wedding date had started out as joke between her and her children and that her and Gemma had always joked that as she was the last sibling to get married it would be down to her to carry on the tradition.
Gemma’s grand-parents Ruth and Peter Voaden had also married at Inwardleigh church 61 years ago.
Mother of the bride Carol said: ‘It was such a beautiful day and was enjoyed by everyone. We presented Gemma with my original wedding ring alongside my mothers ring. So now Gemma holds the three generations of wedding rings.’
At the church, Gemma and Aron’s 10-month-old daughter Ella was carried down the aisle first holding a wooden heart which read ‘here comes mummy’.
Then, all eyes were on Gemma as she was walked down the aisle by her father.
Gemma was accompanied by her sister and maid of honour Samantha Cleave and bridesmaids Frankie Banbury, Kerrie Grant, Hidi Timms, Isabel Timms and Summer Cleave. Gemma’s brother Daniel Timms and brother-in-law Steven Cleave were the drivers and Aron’s best man Tom Williams and ushers Mark and Ben were also on hand to make sure the day ran smoothly.
The reception was held at The Waie Inn and was attended by around 125 guests. During the reception guests enjoyed a meal, some drinks and many musical performances from various family members.
Carol said: ‘There was a 40 minute power cut at the reception, which was a spooky coincidence as myself and Clive also had a power cut at our wedding 33 years ago.
‘We all had such a laugh about it and people even thought that I’d somehow planned the power cut.’
‘When the power came back on, Gemma’s dad and uncle’s band began playing again and guests danced the night away.’
Gemma and Aron spent their day surrounded by loved ones.
They ended the evening with a firework display with friends and family celebrating into the early hours of Sunday morning.
