TWO young people from West Devon have been presented with this year?s West Devon Mayoral Awards. Jan Langton, of Yelverton, won the award in the over 18 category while the under 18 honour went to Lloyd James, of Whitchurch. The presentations were made at a Tavistock College assembly by the mayor of West Devon Cllr Jayne Hill. Cllr Hill said Jan and Lloyd were both ?truly inspiring, fantastic examples of success and great role models for their peers?. Lloyd, 15, a Year 10 student at Tavistock College, is a key member of several rugby teams both in the area and across the county. He was nominated by his college tutor Jonathan Bint. Jan, 19, is an international swimmer and last summer was selected to represent England and Wales in the Cerebral Palsy World Games in the USA. She won a clutch of gold and silver medals and her 4x100m medley relay team broke the world record. She was nominated by Geoff Orton, head of sixth form at Tavistock College. Cllr Hill said the award winners did West Devon proud.
