TAVISTOCK Bowls Club men's league team had two convincing wins over local opposition during the last week.

On Tuesday Yelverton were the visitors losing on all four rinks. The top rink for Tavistock was that of Roy Northam, Malcolm Bloomer, Sandy Sanders and David Perry.

On Wednesday Lee Moor were well beaten, the highlight being a 'hot shot badge' for Mike Allen's rink of Rob Bowhay, Wallace Northey and Phil Jury for the second time in a league match in a season.

To be awarded such a badge you have to get a full eight shots on one end.

Unfortunately the weather prevented the home club from gaining a hat trick of wins in the week on Friday.

The ladies' league match on Wednesday was threatened by rain but they managed to complete their match against Plymstock Bees. It resulted in an overall win for Tavistock even though they lost on one of the rinks so picking up four of the six points.

In friendly matches the ladies beat a strong Elizabethan's team from Plymouth with the best rink for Tavistock being that of Marion Allen, Gill Saunders, June Watson and Valerie Southern.

The men's match against Retired Civil Servants had to be abandoned after ten ends, at which stage the visitors were in front.

Ipplepen were entertained to a mixed match, with Tavistock winning on all six rinks, John Smith and his rink of Victor Doidge, Catrina Meek and Marlene Paramor being top rink for Tavistock.

This week George Barrand, one of the club's most popular members, celebrated his 90th birthday. He still turns out regularly for the club in matches.
