'MAGNIFICENT' was the verdict on the staff of Tavistock Town Hall, following a civic event in the town recently.
Cllr Ted Sherrell told members of the town council's properties committee that a special afternoon tea held to mark his appointment as a freeman of the town was a triumph on the part of those organising the event.
Cllr Sherrell said: 'On the day the performance of the town hall staff was magnificent, in terms of organisation, professionalism, courtesy and hard work.
'I wasn't behind the scenes but it all seemed to go like a well-oiled machine.
'So many people said how much they enjoyed the afternoon, not least because of the way the organisation went — and it was a cracking good tea as well!
'I personally am deeply grateful.'
Town mayor Cllr Harry Smith said: 'It wasn't as easy an event to put together as I thought it might be, but on the day the setting was magnificent, and the way it went was really, really good.
'I believe the council has had many letters to that effect from people who went, I have also had letters which recognise the work that Cllr Sherrell has done over the years.
'I think it was a fantastic event and I believe it was so successful, we are considering holding regular tea events at some point.
'I think the setting was excellent for a cream tea.'
