TAVISTOCK celebrated their return to A Division cricket with a six-wicket win over Cornwood.

Tavistock?s bowlers bowled well and some good catches and sharp fielding reduced Cornwood to 176 all out with four balls remaining.

Young South African Craig Alexander, on his first game for Tavistock, took 5-36.

Cornwood dipped to 88 for 5 until captain Phil Beer, 24 not out, and Dave Petherbridge, 21, led the fight back. Andy Gauler, 3 for 33, and Andy Kaitiff, 2 for 25, finished them off.

In reply Tavistock got off to a steady start with a partnership of 29 between Andy Kaitiff and John McGahey, then Arnie Searle was given out lbw to K Singh and Tavistock wobbled on 55 for 3. Captain Dave Manning and Colin Mortimore steadied the ship with a partnership of 113 before Mortimore (51) was out with 9 runs required.

Steve Luffman joined Manning and the game ended with 10 overs to spare, David Manning hitting 15 fours and one six to reach 76 not out and give Tavistock 20 points.
