OKEHAMPTON Golf Club ladies' section President's Trophy team were out on Tuesday May 23 playing Teignmouth Ladies.

Again, adverse weather conditions greeted the team, and the match was played in rain. The result was a 3 1/2 to 3 1/2 draw, so Okehampton will hope to play well on the return match in the beginning of June.

On Wednesday May 24 the ladies' competition was a little different with a drawn greensomes being played. The winning team was Eileen Piper and Joan Essex with a good total of 35 points.

Close in second place were Mary Kier and Lesley Hill with 34 points, also with 34 points and losing on countback were Shirley Reddaway and Mo Holland.

This competition started out in dry weather but soon deteriorated into another wet and windy round.

Monday May 22 saw more than 100 Lady Venerable Veterans gathering at Teign Valley Golf Club — this is for ladies over 70 years of age. There were also 11 very Venerable Veterans taking part — ladies over 80 years old.

The lady president of Okehampton Golf Club, Mrs Janie Mortimer, took part, and was in the lead in her section from 1pm until almost 4pm, when sadly three ladies came in with higher scores and she was pipped at the post by one point out of the prizes.

The day was a great success, and Teign Valley and their 'Teignagers' — their senior section — gave a wonderful display of hospitality and courtesy to all the players.
