AS a Bere Alston resident I am appalled by the Bere Ferrers Parish Council's decision to allow the public toilets to close.

Clearly, Bere Alston's many elderly people will be seriously inconvenienced by the closure of the public toilets. Indeed, where are village youths supposed to relieve themselves?

It is simply not good enough in this day and age to close down public conveniences. I and many others feel that it is no less important to have clean streets and good sanitation in Bere Alston as it is in Bere Ferrers or anywhere else.

In the interests of public health and common decency, I would urge parish councillors to see sense and re-open Bere Alston's toilets before it is too late.
