A GROUP of fundraisers have completed a charity horse carriage drive across Dartmoor in aid of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

The group, Pony and Trap, drove their carriage in order to raise money for those suffering with PSP, a rare and progressive condition that can cause problems with balance, movement, vision and speech.

The carriage, pulled by ponies William and Archie, arrived in Tavistock on August 23 and the group were outside the town hall rattling their charity buckets.

‘It’s for a good cause,’ said carriage driver Trisha Bailey-Luxton.

‘We hope to raise and much money as possible during our drive across circular tour of Dartmoor. ‘

Liz McQueen, of Pony and Trap, said: ‘The two ponies we used have an impressive CV as they have previously done the John O’Groats to Land’s End trip in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, and the Two Moors Way drive, in aid of Sirona Equine Therapy for Disadvantaged Children, so both are experienced veterans at this kind of event.’

The carriage departed from Parke, near Bovey Tracy, on Monday August 21 and stopped off at the Miniature Pony Centre in Moretonhampstead. They then travelled to Chagford and rested overnight at the Finch Foundry in Sticklepath.

On August 22 they arrived in Okehampton, then headed to Bridestowe before parking up overnight in Lydford.

On August 24 the carriage headed to the next overnight stop via Cornwood, Ivybridge and Buckfastleigh to South Brent.

The last leg of their journey is in Friday, August 25 when the fundraisers will return to Parke via Bovey Tracy. Along the route the group will be selling raffle tickets for a prize draw, which will take place on Saturday, August 26 at Widecombe.
