MANY of your readers may be turning away money.
If they run one of the 1,700 businesses operating in West Devon, and can demonstrate hardship caused by foot and mouth disease they will almost certainly be eligible for rate relief for the next 12 months.
West Devon Borough Council must be applauded for exceeding Government guidelines. They are offering rate relief for the next 12 months to all affected businesses irrespective of rateable value.
This is a major concession and I urge everyone eligible to apply. It will save them hard cash and will also help our case for extra help from central government — the more people who apply for rate relief the more chance we have in raising regeneration grants for the district once foot and mouth is eradicated.
