THREE church bells worth around £30,000 and weighing around 13cwt were stolen from a business in Tavistock last Monday. The bells belonged to All Saints Church Merton near Okehampton and were being refurbished at Parade Business Park, off Pixon Lane in Tavistock. Thieves broke into the premises between 6.40pm and 9.15pm and stole the ?irreplaceable? items. One of the bells is from the 13th century and is Listed. Two of the bells weighed 4cwt and the third weighed a quarter of a ton. They were 70% copper. A spokesman from Tavistock Police Station said: ?We are looking at four people to move just one of the bells and they must have had a vehicle. ?The bells are of great sentimental value, as the parishioners of the church had fundraised to get the bells restored.? If anyone has information on this incident they should contact 08452 777444 and quote the crime reference number JT/07/1168.
