AN Okehampton community youth project had a visit from the Central Devon MP recently, giving him a chance to see the work of the project.

Streetlevel is organised entirely by volunteers and provides teenagers and children in the town with a chance to learn life skills, and take part in events and new challenges at New Life Church every Friday in the Refresh café.

The church operates several youth groups, giving young people the chance to meet with their friends to discuss issues such as relationships and peer pressures.

Streetlevel also joins up with other groups in Devon, and organises community events in the town.

Central Devon MP Mel Stride met the youth group at their weekly get together at New Life Church on November 18 and was encouraged by the group's enthusiasm and energy in providing a range of activities.

He said: 'I was incredibly impressed by Streetlevel and it was a real pleasure to meet the young people who took the time to meet and speak with me.

'One of the most impressive things with the group is that it is staffed completely by volunteers and is a great example of the strength of community in the town.'
