IT'S very difficult trying to keep a secret that you know everyone in Tavistock knows!
What a relief to read the letter that Mr Spielberg sent to the local paper recently, thanking the folk of Tavistock for their hospitality and saying how much he enjoyed Dartmoor. This meant we could finally admit that Emily Watson and Peter Mullan (Mother and Father in the film) along with two directors actually stayed in Tavistock Railway Station during filming.
When Afterworks were looking for accommodation for the actors and directors etc of the film 'War Horse' we were told not to tell anyone. But of course it was common knowledge throughout the town that the film was being made and that accommodation and facilities would be needed for approximately 300 people, including Mr Spielberg. Apparently 1,000 people arrived in Princetown to audition as extras.
Most mornings they left about 5.30am and didn't arrive back until after 9pm in the evening and even though we didn't see very much of them, it was still exciting to have these characters staying with us.
We are looking forward to seeing the film and being able to say that two of the main characters stayed in our cottages at Tavistock Railway Station.
