ACTS of Remembrance took place at Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston on Sunday, November 12. In the morning, parish and borough councillors were among villagers who gathered at the war memorial in Bere Ferrers, with the Rev Nick Law leading the service of remembrance. Cllr Bev Slaughter, parish council chairman, laid a wreath, Stan Sherrell laid the wreath on behalf of the Royal British Legion, and Ted Wyke-Smith laid a tribute to the New Zealand soldiers killed at the local railway station in 1917. A service in St Andrew's Church, Bere Ferrers followed. In the afternoon a large number of people gathered at the war memorial in Bere Alston and tributes were laid prior to the parade to Holy Trinity Church for the service, again conducted by the Rev Nick Law, this time led by Stannary Brass. The previous day villagers and councillors had met at the Bere Alston flagstaff for a short act of remembrance at 11am, when two minutes silence was observed.
