A GREAT Western Railway teapot has been donated to the Dartmoor Railway museum at Okehampton. At nearly 100 years of age, the large brown teapot, which was once used in railway buffets, was given by Betty Simms and her husband Roy, from Bow. Betty had been storing the antique in a bathroom cupboard for more than 30 years. ?My mother bought it just after nationalisation from a stall in Douglas Street, Deptford,? she said. ?She then passed it on to me, and it is in such good condition I wanted to ensure it could be appreciated by another generation.? In 1979, Betty and Roy moved down to Bow from Lewisham in South London, bringing the teapot with them. Volunteer for the Dartmoor Railway, Geoff Mills, said: ?Although we are a Southern Railway line ? and before that the London and South Western Railway ? all railway artefacts are welcome so that visitors to Okehampton Station can appreciate what the steam age represented.? l Betty and Roy Simms are pictured with the teapot which they donated to the museum.
