Liskeard Men?s 1st 4
Tavistock Men?s 1st 3
TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team, hoping to maintain their lead at the top of South West division 1, started badly against Liskeard, going behind early on.
But Tavistock responded when Lethbridge had his shot deflected from a short corner which then hit the back of the net.
With snow surrounding the pitch Tavistock battled on, creating many decent chances, one of which presented Honey Jr with an opportunity for a second goal, but the shot hit the post.
Honeys junior and senior linked up well with Andrews and Holden on the right and together they worked admirably to create opportunities for Heard, Boot-Handford and Barratt.
But they had their work cut out keeping the Liskeard midfield at bay. Liskeard played well and scored a second goal.
Tavistock came back with another from a poke-in by Andrews after they had piled on the pressure from short corners.
After the break Tavistock started the brighter with sturdy defence from Lethbridge and Costello and built on that with Heard firing home their third.
After Liskeard?s keeper was sin-binned for backchat Tavistock again began to pile on the pressure but were hit on the counter attack and left exposed for the home side to level.
In the final minutes it was anyone?s match but Liskeard snatched it at the death, leaving Tavistock second in the league, two points behind Plymouth University.
Tavistock are home against Bodmin on Sunday at 4.30 pm.
Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 7
Plymouth & Marjons 3rd XI 0
THIS league hockey game opened with Tavistock heavily on the attack, Lisa Butler and Fiona Dunn making excellent runs up the pitch.
Susannah Boulle created lovely attacks for the forwards. She and Rebecca Wallace allowed Tavistock to have numerous shots at goal as they fed the ball back into the D after the rebound shot.
Laura Armstrong worked well with Jo Gaspar, who despite being still injured from last week, had an excellent game. She battled all the way through the match as no sub was available. The midfield play of Sandra Collar, Gill Court, Boulle and Wallace seemed unpenetrable and the odd time the opposition did break through they were no match for Babs Horton and Dunn.
A short corner was awarded against Tavistock but keeper Soozi Baggs kept her cool and prevented a goal from being scored. Tavistock were too quiet for Dunn?s liking and it was through the many early calls of Emma White and Lisa Butler that White scored the first goal of the match.
Within minutes of the second half, Armstrong put her first goal in the net.
Butler, Wallace and Collar made excellent passes. Collar made some excellent interceptions and was also goal hungry. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock but they did not capitalise on them. Despite this, Court and Armstrong linked well to Boulle and Armstrong scored again from an excellent ball fed into the D.
Armstrong was on top form and from a good cross from Butler scored her fourth. The fifth for Armstrong was from a short corner. Boulle took the direct strike and Armstrong hit it on the rebound.
White scored the sixth goal. Wallace and Dunn continued to put pressure on the opposition through their forward line. Armstrong scored the seventh and last goal of the match as she was alert in the D to a rebound strike from Gaspar.
Player of match: Sandra Collar.
This week Tavistock are away at Lux Park, Liskeard, 1.30pm start.
