THE Parish Church of All Saints celebrates 125 years of the Children's Society during a Christingle service in Okehampton this weekend. In recent years the church has raised significant sums of money for the Children's Society, which works with some of the most marginalised children in society. The service takes place at the church at 11am, this Sunday, December 3. The Rev Mark Thomas said: 'We will be making 140 "Christingles" from oranges donated by our local Waitrose supermarket on Saturday morning.' He said local people would be welcome to come along and help from 11am in St James' Church or they could join the congregation for the service on Sunday, where everyone gets to light their own Christingle. Mr Thomas said this helped to create 'a magical atmosphere appreciated by children and adults alike'.
