Jewson South Western

Tavistock 2

Holsworthy 1

CRAIG Brook made an unexpected starting line up due to James Cole having to cry off with a foot injury and the non-arrival of striker Darren Halfyard. The Lambs were still without the injured Andy Parnowski and Ben Pinkham continued in the centre of defence with Craig Hodge returning from injury to sit on the bench.

The first half was a drab affair apart from Lamerton bringing off a good save for the visitors in the first minute and Hackett finished poorly on two occasions. The Magpies almost took the lead just prior to half time when from a corner the ball was headed on for Chidley to hit the post from close range only to see it cleared off the line.

Pinkham was substituted at half-time by Hodge after being crudely tackled and could take no further part.

With just over a quarter of an hour remaining on came Pete Tifney for Danny McTighe but almost immediately the visitors took the lead. Hodge failed to connect with a backward pass that let in Clarke. Despite Andy Meeds saving his first attempt he made sure with his follow-up.

Five minutes later Lamerton brought off the save of the game as Crocker's chipped shot bounced down and up towards the top corner for him to tip over the bar. It looked as though that was going to be the Lamb's final chance. But there is a different belief in the team this season and within three minutes they were level.

Gott sent in a low cross that Lamerton failed to cut out and John Gosling was on hand to stab the ball home from close range.

With just two minutes remaining, Johns headed away for a corner and it was Gott who sent in a cross for Darren Babb to arrive at the far post to steer it home via the upright and send the home crowd into raptures.

Not one of the best games to watch but one where the Lambs showed their fighting qualities and the will to win and turned out worthy winners.
