MUSIC lovers in Tavistock have a treat in store next Wednesday, when the Kelly College Concert Society will be visited by John Savournin, the distinguished baritone, (pictured right), with his accompanist Peter Hewitt.

The duo will perform in a recital entitled 'The Gilbert and Sullivan Story' — a light-hearted evening of stories, songs, poems and music centred on the immortal Savoy operas.

Through the eyes of George Grossmith, the actor who originally created these comic roles, audiences will be given a unique insight into the characters of both W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan and meet The Sergeant of Police, Ko-Ko, The Lord Chancellor, Major-General Stanley and other timeless favourites.

John is currently appearing in leading roles with Opera North and has also directed The Pirates of Penzance for the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company to great critical acclaim.

The concert begins at 7.45pm on Wednesday, October 16, in the Melvin Hall, Kelly College and tickets will be available on the door.
