THE final of the Dave Doidge Memorial darts competition was held in the Prince of Wales pub at Princetown on Saturday — the seventh running of this increasingly popular event.

There will be another new name on the trophy. Tony Steele, producing some inspiring darts, got the better of Patrick Trewin by 3 legs to 1 in a thrilling final.

Ralph Millard, one of the organisers along with Dave Doidge's widow Jackie, said: 'The response from the businesses of Tavistock, Yelverton and Princetown was once again incredible and a huge thank you to them all for the gifts donated. The weekly draws produced a total of £916 which will go to the Macmillan Nurses Charity fund. This brings the grand total of monies raised over the seven years the competition has been running to £6,068. The people of Princetown also deserve the highest praise for their continued support this event.

'Thanks also go to Keith and Sara of the Plume of Feathers and Shelly and Terry at the Prince of Wales for the use of their establishments, and the great food supplied at the final.

'Jackie, who put in a lot of time and hard work during the organisation, would like to give a special thank-you to all those who gave her a helping hand.'
