PUPILS at Mount Kelly were recently invited to participate in a 'Cracking the Code' regional prep school event.
The school team comprised four Year 7 pupils Tess Campbell-Bareham, Nicholas Crighton, Joseph DuGay and James Elderfield. The invitation-only programme for gifted and talented Year 7 pupils was hosted by Sherborne School and Sherborne Girls School.
The activities for the day were maths, geography or history, language (Irish or Dutch) and science. Students were separated from school groups and integrated into four mixed school teams.
Mount Kelly performed extremely well with one pupil receiving a top prize for his performance on the day.
Malcolm Bassett, head of mathematics Years 6 to 8, said: 'It was a great experience and I enjoyed the chance to see how the children reacted and performed in such an academically competitive environment. We recently received the news that James Elderfield has been awarded first place overall in the mathematics "Cracking the Code" challenge. This is a tremendous honour, particularly given the challenging nature of the day's activities and the very able group of pupils involved.'
