MASSAGE, injury treatment, personal training and homoeopathy sessions will be on offer at Tavistock Rugby Club's Sandy Park base this weekend, in the club's new clinic.

The clinic has been set up within the club's changing area and is being run by sports therapist Steve Lilley.

Steve provides treatment for all Tavistock RFCs teams, in addition to his work with Plymouth Titans, Plymouth Argyle Ladies and Callington Town FC, amongst others.

The opening morning at Sandy Park will take place between 9.30am and noon on Saturday September 6.

The event, held prior to the First XV's first game of the season, will enable members of the public and sportsmen, women and young people to see what sport therapy, treatment and advice is available outside the rugby club's normal open hours.

There will be 30 minute massage and injury treatment sessions available to book, plus personal trainer taster sessions and homoeopathy taster sessions. Alternatively, people can turn up on the day without booking, on an availability basis.

Steve said: 'The clinic is aimed to help sporting people and athletes become fit again after injury and return to their sport, but also to help people with injuries and health conditions get back to or as close as they can to a normal life.

'For me it is great to have a base where I can work with my growing groups of players, but also my private clients. Keeping all my equipment together and not having to travel all over Devon and Cornwall to see my players meaning I can spend more time working with them.'

The homeopathy taster sessions on Saturday are being run by Karen Leadbeater.

Karen said: ' Homeopathy is not the first treatment thought of following sports injury, but people who have used it report more rapid recovery, reduced pain and swelling, and reduced susceptibility to chronic problems afterwards, for example, weakness in ankle following sprain.'

Karen will be handing out leaflets and advice on the day and will also have homeopathy first aid kits for sale.

Tavistock Rugby Club Nigel Larcombe said: 'Recovery time after injury is crucial for anyone involved in sport and this new facility will dramatically increase the speed of recovery — because it's on site, we will be able to treat people very quickly and therefore minimise the impact of their injuries — it's brilliant and it's also a very valuable resource for the community, not just the club itself.'

The planned cost of 30 minute sessions at the club is £15. To book any session, whether this weekend or at any other time, call Steve Lilley on 07773 863518.
