THE West Devon author of a book on the construction of the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway will give an illustrated talk on the subject in the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock, next Thursday (October 23).

This important railway, built between 1870 and 1890, was the last link in the London and South Western Railway's line from Waterloo to Plymouth.

Stephen Fryer, from Buckland Monachorum, will talk about the struggle to get this last section of track built, giving a fascinating insight into Victorian England.

The talk, which starts at 7.30pm, has been arranged by the Plym Valley Railway Association, who are rebuilding a section of the former GWR line at Marsh Mills, in Plymouth.
