Okehampton Acorns 45
Exeter Saracens III 12
THIS was the Acorns first game since early December, but it was good to see the lads had not forgotten their winning ways.
On a quagmire of a pitch Okehampton still tried to spin the ball at every opportunity and this paid dividends, with scrum-half Perry Vallance scoring twice in the first quarter of an hour — once from a five-metre scrum, the second from a move started in their own half.
Later in the first half winger Richard Kivell showed great pace to outstrip the defence and score under the posts.
This was followed by a good try from Adrian Curtis who after a Saracens attack broke down, picked the ball up on his own 22-metre line and ran the length of the pitch to score.
Saracens pulled a try back when a mix-up in the defence allowed their scrum half to dive in.
In the second half Okehampton kept the pressure up with Philip Wonnacott, who had an excellent game, tackling everything that moved and Dave Bidmead, playing his first game in 10 years, looking impressive with some big hits.
Gary Carey crossed the line after a good blind-side move before Kivell sprinted in for his second.
Saracens scored a deserved try near the end, but the Acorns had the last laugh when a switch in the centre saw Gary Carey crash through for his second.
Adam Holliday added five conversions to complete the scoring.
This week the Acorns are away to Bideford. Anybody interested in playing should ring Perry Vallance on Okehampton 52417.
