Southway 4

Tavistock Ladies 0

EVERYONE knew that playing top of the league Southway was going to be tough but it started even and for the first 20 minutes Tavistock defended well.

Kirsty Jones and Julie MaGowan, playing midfield, battled to keep the ball upfield and strong tackling from Lisa Curtis made chances that unfortunately Tavistock could not finish.

Rachel Galvin did a superb job of keeping a fast right winger out of the game and tackled continuously. Belinda Stephens and Wendy Stephens cleared up most of Southway's attacks.

Southway scored again shortly before half-time with a ball slotted beneath the keeper.

The second half saw Tavistock making most of the play and Curtis, after a good solo run, was unlucky not to score. Donna Burch came close with a well taken free kick but it was not Tavistock's day and after a run down the wing and cross in Angie Dutson was unlucky to hit the ball on her shoulder defeating her keeper to put Southway three up.

Aileen Ismail never stopped battling and caused hysterics around the ground causing the referee to halt the game when she was taken down in a huge puddle on the pitch which soaked all the surrounding players.

Another goal was smashed in shortly afterwards probably due to giggles still going on in defence.

This game was played with humour and enjoyment, what ladies' football is all about.

Lady of the match: Kirsty Jones.

Tavistock Ladies are home this Sunday to Rolle Rockets. Kick-off 11am.
