ON behalf of Girlguiding in Tavistock, I would like to thank local residents for their kind support of our Christmas Post service again this year. Just under 7,000 cards were posted in our boxes and the girls as usual did their best to deliver them all over the weekend before Christmas.
Thankfully the weather was no problem this year, but we do still find it difficult to deliver cards with no addresses, and this time even one with no name on too!
We were disappointed that some people felt they would tape together a number of cards and then use one stamp. This didn't quite seem like the spirit of Christmas and our service is not exactly dear anyway.
The Guides in Tavistock started their Christmas Post scheme in 1988 and we hope we have been able to give good service to thousands of people in the town each succeeding festive season. Community service forms a major part of the Guiding programme and we try to include some form of action as well as fundraising.
The proceeds of the post will be divided, some going to charity and some towards the running costs of our numerous groups throughout the area.
Ours is an exciting movement for both girls and leaders. Anyone interested in getting involved in Girlguiding is welcome to contact me on 01822 613661, Janet Piper on 01822 613856 or Rica Olver on 01822 612743. Thank you.
